Service Updates

We are prioritising critical services and some services may be reduced. This means there will be longer wait times for customers contacting us by phone. Many of our services are available online. Advice on which services can continue is changing rapidly. For regular updates, go to knox.vic.gov.au/coronavirus

Rates assistance

Penalty interest will not be charged on outstanding rates between 31 March 2020 and 31 March 2021. This will be subject to further review by Council during this period.

COVID-19 rates assistance

If you have suffered loss of income and are in financial difficulty due to COVID-19, there are two options available for payment assistance:

Payment plan
If you are unable to pay your rates by the due date you may enter a payment plan. This will ensure you do not accumulate debt during this period.

Extension of time to pay
If you are unable to commit to a payment plan, you may put your account on hold up to 31 March 2021. If you are unable to pay your rates in full by 31 March 2021, you should enter a payment plan now.

Payment plan

When you enter a payment plan, we will ask you to commit to making a minimum payment on a regular basis.

You must:

  • choose to make weekly, fortnightly or monthly payments
  • start your payment plan within 1 month of your application
  • commit to pay a minimum of $20 per week. You may pay more at any time during the plan.

You must pay the full outstanding amount before 30 June 2021.

Extension of time to pay

If you need an extension of time to pay your rates in full, you may choose a payment extension.
Full payment must be made by 31 March 2021.
